Cancer and Cute Hair...

Strange title I know but 2 things happened today. First I dyed my hair a new color. I got brave and dyed my hair a fire engine red. I LOVE IT!!! It is so me and it makes my blue eyes pop. These are horrible pictures taken from my cell phone but I took them in a hurry before work this morning.
Very red hair:

I did my eyebrows too:

Now the cancer news. Many of you know I had something removed from my forehead at the dermatologist office about a week and a half ago. He numbed it, cut it out, and put in 4 stitches. I had the stitches removed on Monday but the results were not in yet. I got a phone call about 5 minutes before I got to work this morning from the dermatologist. I was told that they removed a Squamous Cell Carcinoma but they removed it all. It is the second most common form of skin cancer. So in other words it is not the worst form but not the least worst form either.

Right after removal:

Yummy, bloody stitches:

You can see the steri strip they put on after they removed my stitches Monday in the pictures of the red hair. They said I will have a small scar and a bit of an indention. With Squamous skin cancers there is a higher chance that it might return because the area has already been infected with cancer. Only 2 out of 10 skin cancers are Squamous. Skin cancer runs in my family so I will be wearing sun screen everyday from now on.

Guy had the same thing removed. They know they get it all removed because they take enough until the edges come up clean. It's not uncommon and not too bad but you are right you need to wear sunscreen everyday!!! If only I could convince your brother of the same.

There is a fire on your head!! jk love it!!
Neutrgena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunblock is the only sunscreen I can stand to put on my face. It has the heliplex broad sprctrum (uva and uvb). However, it is like $8-$9 dollars for a 3oz bottle. But sometimes I find it at Costco for much less.

No Sis it was not malignant. It goes from least to worst cancers...basil cell, squamous cell carcinoma, then malignant. They know they got it all because he removed some healthy tissue around the cancer cells. They confirmed healthy cells all around the tumor at the lab! Just like Christa said. Yes Guy and Mom have both had this and I believe dad had it too. It is common to get squamous cell carcinoma if you are fair skinned, blonde, in the sun a lot, or have blue eyes. I will for sure be wearing sun screen everyday.

Amanda, I will go buy that sunscreen because my face is as sensitive as yours. My dermatologist is going to give me some sensitive skin samples but I will need more. Thanks a ton! I will take a trip to Costco.

Thanks for the positive hair comments. I love it!
